About

Jackie Munn is an Army Brat, West Point graduate, former Army captain, and spouse of a former Green Beret.

The daughter of an Army Officer, she grew up all over the United States—New York, Colorado, Kansas, Alabama, Texas—and lived in Germany for nine years.

Her own time in service brought her to Iraq where she managed a supply warehouse; Washington, D.C., where she worked with wounded, injured, and ill soldiers; and Afghanistan, where she served as a Cultural Support Team leader with Special Forces.

Inspired by her work with wounded soldiers in D.C. and vulnerable women and children in Afghanistan, Jackie decided to pursue a master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. During her two year program, she was named a Pat Tillman Scholar and earned her license as a registered nurse and then became a certified family nurse practitioner.

Jackie served on the frontlines during the Covid-19 pandemic, working at her local health department as a contact tracer, advisor to long term care facilities, and as a vaccinator.

When not working, Jackie enjoys reading, writing, and spending her time with her husband and their two sons. Her work has been published in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Outside, Vox, and more. She was also awarded a writing fellowship through the National Endowment for the Arts in 2019.

She currently lives in Mexico City, Mexico.
